Click here to access the audition sign up form. The Majors and Minors program puts students alongside the top professional musicians in the region and around the globe. The group rehearses side by side in a simulated performance environment. The rehearsals are a mix of playing music and instruction from the professionals. Auditions will be in November 2020, rehearsals will be weekly from November through June. The group will perform at the Toledo Jazz Festival 2020.
The Toledo Jazz Festival provides educators and performers for school assemblies. A series called “The Evolution of Jazz” features explosive jazz numbers with an educational component. This includes an understanding of improvisation that every student can appreciate. The series is comprised of four levels that can be scheduled in successive semesters or years, adding a significant arts influence for students of every age.
The Festival brings an ensemble or individual performer to perform and educate in a format tailored specifically for music students. The format is crafted for each specific band and it's needs, as determined by the school’s ensemble director. This offers the students the maximum benefit to receiving valuable information at a level they can access and appreciate.
The Festival co-ordinates regularly scheduled sessions by an artist to work with an individual school band for a semester or the entire school year. Visits are scheduled either once or twice per week and take place during regularly scheduled band rehearsal times.
The Festival director is developing a partnership with an advanced learning institution to host an adult community jazz band. The band would rehearse on a weekly basis throughout the year. This group will perform at the Festival in 2020.
